Another Pinin Farina Babe

Parked on the opposite of the car park when I came out of the supermarket this morning was this pretty little Austin A40. I can see the family resemblance to the 1100 quite clearly. Not really a coincidence as they were both designed by Pinin Farina. The A40 Farina was  introduced in 1958 and discontinued in 1967. I am not sure, but this was probably the original hatchback, though with a 998cc engine it couldn’t be called a hot hatch. Still, I think it is cute and we don’t see enough of them around, especially in this nice condition. (Sorry there is no front shot, but the car park was busy and there was a car revving away waiting for my spot…talk about pressure!)

Hi , nice pic of the Austin A40 - someone uses the polishing cloth - Judging by the boot handle I would say that is probably the Mk II 1100 cc version , possibly a warm hatch . I once had a 1959 MkI model and that was quite nippy for its day, same running gear as a Sprite or Midget, without the twin carbs, or the water leaks.
